Can’t Miss Chicago Events: July 2018
Summertime BBQs are in full swing, the beaches are packed, and festival season has taken over the parks and streets of Chicagoland! We are fully submerged in the season of all things celebratory, and we plan to savor every minute of it. This month hosts some of Chicago’s biggest and most anticipated festivals including the Pitchfork Music Festival and Taste of Chicago. So, mark your calendars. Here’s what we’re most looking forward to:
When: Wednesday, July 11th – Sunday July 15th
Where: Grant Park, Millennium Park
Grant Park will once again host Chicago’s most anticipated food festival of the year– Taste of Chicago! Trade those tickets for a taste of Chicago’s street fare, enjoy live music at Petrillo, and just take in the wondrous atmosphere and aromas. Whether you’re after Eli’s Cheesecake, some deep-dish pizza or a giant turkey leg, this festival never disappoints.
When: Thursday, July 12th
Where: Sullivan Center Alley, Loop
The Chicago Loop Alliance will throw one of their monthly parties in the Sullivan Center alley on Monroe between State and Wabash. Local artists and DJs will help host the event. Guests can RSVP to receive a free drink when they arrive to enjoy with the night’s music, art and entertainment. This month’s event theme is TunnelVision. It will feature projection-mapped art, light sculptures, a virtual reality lounge and music from Bit x Bit and DreamBait.
When: Friday, July 13th – Sunday, July 15th
Where: Lincoln Square
This street festival will take over the main drag of Lincoln Square where alt-country, folk and Americana music will fill the air. This year’s headliners among a diverse lineup include the Jayhawks, Pokey LaFarge and the Handsome Family. Guests will also enjoy multiple craft beer gardens, food from local restaurants and a market filled with goods from local businesses.
When: Friday, July 13th – Sunday July 15th
Where: 560 W Grand St., River West
Summertime means BBQ time! So, you won’t want to miss spending an entire weekend eating barbecue and listening to country music at the Windy City Smokeout. This event will fill a parking lot with some of the country’s best pitmasters and musicians while guests sample smoked meats from BBQ masters of Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. There will also be live performances by Brett Eldredge, Brothers Osborne, Ashley McBryde and Aaron Lewis.
When: Friday, July 20th – Sunday, July 22nd
Where: Union Park, West Loop
Pitchfork is the ultimate laid-back weekend music festival that showcases rising bands, underground legends and mainstream performers with strong independent roots just waiting to be discovered. This year’s headlining acts include Tame Impala, Fleet Foxes, and Ms. Lauryn Hill. You’ll also want to grab seats early for funk legend Chaka Khan, as well as Mount Kimbie, This is Not This Heat and many, many other talented performers.
When: Saturday, July 21st – Sunday, July 22nd
Where: Webster St. and Sheffield Ave., Lincoln Park
You won’t want to miss this Lincoln Park fest where more than 70 local, regional and national craft beers from 35 brewers will be served up. Be sure to purchase tickets before making your way to the tasting session each day from 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Each ticket is good for one 3-ounce sample of beer.
When: Friday, July 27th – Sunday, July 29th
Where: Milwaukee Ave. and North Ave., Wicker Park
This annual attraction has the same quality music lineup as the Pitchfork Music Festival, just located in Wicker Park. This year’s featured acts include Porches, Against Me!, Red Fang and Ezra Furman. There will also be lots of delicious food and great sales at local shops for all to enjoy.
