CTA
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) offers a number of resources for getting around the city. You can check out their list of helpful trip planners here. The CTA is in charge of the “L” train which runs throughout the city. Your typical fare for the “L” will be about $2.25 with reduced prices for students. A transfer will cost you about a quarter. Divvy Bikes
Divvy bikes are the robin’s egg blue bikes you’ll see parked at racks throughout the city. A map of Divvy bike stations can be found here and an app for payment and location can be found here. Pricing for Divvy bikes is $9.95 for a 24-hour pass hour $9.95 a month with a one-year commitment. Student and corporate pricing is also available. You must pay extra if you ride for over 30 minutes at a time.
SpotHero
Spothero is the perfect parking app for parking lots across Chicago. With SpotHero, you can often find parking for much less than what they’ll charge you in your average Chicago parking garage. You can also rent parking spaces in the city by the month, perfect for anyone trying to manage owning a car.
Uber
Uber provides Chicago residents with a affordable pick-up/drop-off and ridesharing options. Uber is divided into a number of different sub-brands. uberPOOL is the ridesharing option, allowing you to split the cost of commute with another traveler. uberX is the low-cost option, perfect for commuting alone. Base fares start at $1.70 and there’s a 20 cent per minute (or 90 cents per mile) charge past that. uberXL is for larger groups. uberCAB uses Chicago’s existing taxis. Chicago residents can also benefit by driving for Uber, choosing their own schedules for a full-time job or even some added cash.
