Things to Do in Chicago This Winter When You’re Not Hibernating

It’s true that winter can be a little harsh in Chicago, but there’s also a lot to love about this season in the midwest. In the Windy City, specifically, there’s still plenty of excitement out there to enjoy!  So, bundle up and take advantage of it! 

Really, Winter is a time for Chicago to shine in all of its glory.  You can ice skate beneath the beautiful skyline, cozy up to a bar with a fireplace, head to one of our incredible museums and so, so much more!  All you have to do is get off that couch, and we promise the city will take care of the rest. Make this winter one of your best yet!  Here are some of the things that we’re excited to step out of hiding for to turn those bitter cold days and nights into happy memories.

Chicago Winter Activities You Don’t Want to Miss

The Garfield Park Conservatory

Where:  300 N Central Park Ave. 

Forget about the cold chill for an afternoon, and surround yourself with color and warmth at the Luftwerk exhibit at Garfield Park Conservatory.  

The Harold Washington Library

Where:  400 S State St.

Spend a day exploring the nine floors of the Harold Washington Library in the Loop.  This new Chinatown Library is a great winter getaway that boasts more than just books.  They even offer special classes like tai chi for those feeling adventurous.  

The Chicago Cultural Center

Where:  78 E Washington St.

Explore the beauty of the culture center, and check out some of their special events like free music and more.    

The Stony Island Arts Bank

Where:  6760 S. Stony Island Ave.   

Stay warm indoors, and check out the South Side’s new venue for contemporary art and special events.  With all sorts of projects, exhibitions, events and more, this platform for art and cultural development is a great afternoon out.  

Museums

Chicago is known for having some of the best museums in the country.  So, when it’s dark and gloomy outside, head to the Museum of Contemporary Art or the Art Institute for a creative pick-me-up.

Ice Skating at Millennium Park

Winter weather and ice skating are just part of the celebration of the season.  Head to the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink for public skating.  The rink features some of the best views of the downtown skyline, so don’t miss this winter tradition.

Beat the cold, and your friends, with a night of cocktails and board games.  There are so many great bars around Chicago that host game nights and events where you and your friends can stay warm and have a little friendly competition.
